KNOXVILLE, TN — Members of East Tennessee Jobs with Justice picketed outside Knox County Purchasing Division offices in protest of custodial outsourcing, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The proposed outsourcing would cost nearly 350 workers their jobs, the article noted.

The protesters, who encouraged onlookers to sign an online petition at Change.org, are worried about the vulnerability of district custodians, the article stated.

"There are no associations for teachers'' aides, custodians or cafeteria workers or anyone like that," said Anne Barnett, spokeswoman for Jobs with Justice.

"They are kind of an easy target because they have no organization that can push back," Barnett added.

According to the article, the group was picketing a pre-bid conference to review a request for proposal issued for the school system''s outsourcing proposal.
