PHILADELPHIA — A cleaning company accused of firing a mostly black cleaning crew and replacing it with cleaners of other ethnic groups has agreed to a settlement, according to The Inquirer.

Matrix LLC will pay the affected cleaners and their white supervisor $425,500 to settle federal suit filed on the cleaners'' behalf, the article stated.

According to the article, Matrix hired the white supervisor, Barbara Palermi, in June 2007; shortly after, Palermi was instructed not to hire any more black cleaners.

The suit alleges that Palermi and the cleaners were fired in October of 2007 after she refused to make hiring decisions based on race, the article noted.
