CHICAGO — More than 3,300 janitors represented by the SEIU Local 1 marched in downtown Chicago Sunday to kick off their contract negotiations with local cleaning contractors, building owners and office managers, according to the Daily Herald.
The upcoming contract talks will involve janitors who work in office buildings in Chicago, Schaumburg, Deerfield, Oak Brook and other suburbs, the story stated.
An underlying purpose of the rally was to urge banks to use federal bailout money for job creation, not for padding executive salaries, the story noted.
Another rally is planned for March 5 at the Fifth Third Bank in Schaumburg, IL, the story added.
