ROCKFORD, MI — April 4, 1968, was the day Bob Bowman began working for Rockford Public Schools as a custodian. This week, he swept up one last time, according to WZZM-TV.
He made such a mark on the Parkside Elementary School community where he''s worked for the past 35 years, staff and students surprised him this week with a special sendoff ceremony: He received a golden broom and many heartfelt tributes, the article noted.
Bowman showed a visitor this week the "Hall of Fame" hanging in his office, which contains the photos of students who have volunteered to help him with trash and recycling duties, the article stated.
Bowman says he hasn''t thought much about what he''ll do in retirement, but plans to treat it "like a vacation."
