LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A worker at Advocate Condell Medical Center was crushed to death in a storage room, according to the Lake County Sun-News.
Rajmund Zalewa, 26, died Tuesday night when drywall containing a heavy lead coating that is used in X-ray rooms to block radiation from leaking out fell on him at the hospital, the article stated.
"We are mourning the loss of a well-respected employee and our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family. Our team is continuing an investigation into this tragedy," said Vincent Pierri, spokesman for the hospital.
Lake County Deputy Coroner Mike Reid said Zalewa was in a storage area when several sheets of the material fell on him and trapped him underneath: He died from asphyxiation.
