TORONTO — The head janitor at an all-girls'' Catholic school has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and arson in connection with a gas leak at the school, according to the National Post.
Teachers at St. Joseph''s Catholic School detected the smell of gas at around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, prompting them to evacuate the school and call the police, the article stated.
According to the article, officers on the scene detected a break in the gas line to the school, which they believed to have been deliberately cut.
Police believe head custodian Vincent Perna cut the gas line and then helped a staff member light a stove in the school kitchen, the article noted.
Perna, 67, has been charged with breaking and entering, mischief endangering life, common nuisance, attempted murder and attempted arson with a disregard for human life, the article added.
