ROCKVILLE, MD — The International Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Association announced that it has been approved as an accredited Standards Development Organization (SDO) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), according to a press release.
IKECA will fill a void in the world of American National Standards by producing the first comprehensive, consensus-built standards for the cleaning, inspection and maintenance of commercial kitchen exhaust systems, the release stated.
Timothy Shaw, IKECA executive director, said: "With American National Standards for kitchen exhaust cleaning, millions of dollars in property loss can be averted and lives will be saved. IKECA standards will benefit the restaurant and insurance industries, but more importantly they will significantly improve life safety for both first responders and the general public."
It is IKECA’s goal to create standards that work in harmony with existing standards for kitchen exhaust design, installation and operation, the release noted.
