IICRC reports progress on state legislation

VANCOUVER, WA – The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification''s Government Affairs Committee is pleased to announce that it continues to make an impact on state legislation and licensing in the mold remediation industry, specifically in Kentucky and Louisiana, according to a press release.

In Kentucky, stated the release, the Office of the Attorney General, in consultation with the Department of Public Health and the Division for Air Quality, must set standards for mold remediation companies that operate in the Commonwealth.

The new law requires that the standards be based on "the five general principles of mold remediation created by the [IICRC] in its publication," the ANSI/IICRC Standard S520, which are: Safety and health; project documentation; contaminant control; contaminant removal; and contamination prevention.

The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General will hold a meeting to discuss the specifics of implementing and regulating the new law, added the release.

And, in Louisiana, the state now recognizes IICRC certifications for mold remediation licensing.

According to the release, training provided by IICRC-sponsored classes will now help practitioners in the state secure the licensing needed to be a mold remediation contractor.

Government Affairs Committee Chair Dr. Randy Rapp explained: "We have been able to advance our mission by engaging these various audiences. The results of our efforts show that we have been able to help government entities make better, more informed decisions to the benefit of the industry and the public."
