Hotel cited over lack of safety

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Hyatt Regency Indianapolis hotel is facing fines for citations by state Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspectors, according to the Indianapolis Star.

The citations come after hotel workers filed complaints stating that they were not properly trained in the safe use of cleaning agents and potentially hazardous chemicals, the article noted.

Fort Wayne-based Hospitality Staffing Solutions (HSS) has received similar citations regarding inadequate training in the safe use of cleaning and other chemicals and the safe disposal of bio-hazardous materials, the article stated.

According to the article, UNITE HERE, who has been trying to organize the Hyatt Regency''s employees for two years, disclosed the complaints to OSHA.

The Hyatt Regency is looking at nearly $4,400 in potential fines, while HSS could face fines up to $49,900, the article added.
