SPRINGFIELD, OR — After 10 months without a contract and more than a year of negotiations, Community Health Systems, owner of McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 49 reached a new contract, according to The Register-Guard.
The union represents 340 service workers, including housekeepers, at the hospital, the article stated.
According to the article, bargaining teams for the union and Community Health Systems tentatively approved an agreement Wednesday.
Friday night, the SEIU membership ratified the proposal with a 95 percent "yes" vote, the article noted.
The contract, which runs through December 2013, calls for an immediate 1.4 percent wage increase, the article added.
