Hand sanitizers' effectiveness in question

SEATTLE – With the emergence of hand sanitizers, some people have enjoyed the portable solution over the traditional warm water and soap method, but can hand sanitizers eradicate the potentially fatal bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli), asks the Food Poison Journal.
Recently, 4th grader Celia Vernon conducted an experiment to uncover the answer, stated the article.
Vernon, who won her class science fair with an experiment involving a live sample of E.coli, tested several solutions on E. coli, including a popular hand sanitizer brand, continued the article.
The article revealed that in a side-by-side comparison with common bleach, the E. coli on the hand sanitizer side survived; on the bleach side, it died.
