Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professionals (AP) and LEED Green Associates (GA) can now earn continuing education hours through the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute''s continuing education unit, Design to Prevent the Damaging Effects of Mold, which was recently accredited by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

Design to Prevent the Damaging Effects of Mold draws on case studies and statistical data to explore the implications of failing to control moisture.

Those implications include health hazards, loss of structural integrity and significant costs — both legally and financially.

The course is relevant to the design, construction and maintenance phases of the building process, with an emphasis on schools, health care facilities and residences.

Resources for material selection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sanctioned remediation procedures will also be discussed.
