CEDAR SPRING, GA — Roughly 100 employees at Georgia-Pacific''s Cedar Spring mill are being laid off, according to WTVY-TV.
Twenty percent of the 550 person workforce at the mill that makes containerboard for boxes will lose their jobs, the story stated.
Celia Bostwick, public affairs manager at the mill, said: "At Cedar Springs we''re a really tight family and this announcement and decision was really tough for us because it will affect our friends and our co-workers."
The layoffs, necessary to keep the mill running, will take effect on January 26 when the mill will shut down one of its three containerboard machines, the story noted.
If the economy recovers and demand once again increases, the employees will be offered their jobs back, the story added.
