SALT LAKE CITY — The inventory center for WAXIE Sanitary Supply has become the first inventory center in the industry to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, according to a press release.
According to the release, the center incorporates features that improve energy and water efficiency and the indoor environmental quality for workers.
In addition, the construction of the building utilized repurposed and local materials — diverting 98 percent of construction waste from the landfill — and posted signs educating building occupants about sustainability, the release stated.
WAXIE President Charles Wax said: "With sustainability in mind, we built this new facility using a design that provides low impact on the environment and an enhanced working environment for our employees."
The center also gained points by adopting a formal green cleaning policy, contributed by the company''s GPS Green Partner Support™, the release noted.
WAXIE Sanitary Supply is America''s largest family-owned distributor of sanitary maintenance supplies, the release added.
