CHICAGOEcoform and ISSA have made significant strides towards an information-based environmental label (IBEL), according to a press release.

According to the release, IBEL will work together with existing eco-label programs as well as provide a consistent format for labeling the product categories that are currently covered by eco-label programs.

Jack Geibig, president of Ecoform and leading developer of IBEL, said: "With the recent development of several key metrics, we have made significant progress in the development of an information-based environmental label (IBEL) in just a few short months."

Metrics have been developed for the fragrances, color and dyes, combustibility, post-consumer packaging content, recyclable packaging content and bio-based material content environmental attributes for chemical cleaners, the release stated.

Ecoform has also launched a new section of its website to chronicle the IBEL development process, including a calendar of upcoming events, archived summaries of work group calls, a bulleting board and other collaborative features, the release noted.

The development of the IBEL program was first announced at the 2009 ISSA/INTERCLEAN trade show and convention in Chicago, the release added.
