Diversey Earns Green Master Award from
Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council
NEENAH, WIS – Diversey today was awarded a Green Masters designation during the third annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council conference, taking place this week in Neenah, Wis. The Green Masters designation is the highest honor in the Green Masters Program established by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. The Council recognized Diversey for its leadership in sustainability issues ranging from energy and natural resource use, to education, outreach and purchasing. Fourteen Wisconsin companies have earned the Green Masters designation.
“The Green Masters designation is another important achievement as Diversey integrates sustainability throughout its operations,” said Diversey’s Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer John Matthews. “Our facilities in Wisconsin are living examples of how sustainable business practices can enhance a company’s value. Our environmental achievements have made our facilities more profitable and have been living laboratories as we improve the solutions we offer our customers.”
Diversey is a global leader in the commercial cleaning and sanitation industry, serving customers in more than 175 countries.
Added Tom Eggert, executive director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council, “Diversey has been a leader from the time they piloted the LEED for Existing Buildings protocol in their corporate headquarters in Sturtevant. I am delighted that they have chosen to help develop and participate in the Green Masters Program.”
Diversey’s Sustainability Commitment in its Wisconsin Facilities
Diversey integrates sustainable business practices into every aspect of its operations, focusing not only on improving environmental metrics in its own facilities, but also helping its customers do the same.
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded Diversey’s Mount Pleasant distribution center its third Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Gold level, making it the first commercial building in the world to hold three LEED Gold certifications. The facility earned LEED Gold for Commercial Interiors (CI), following its Existing Buildings (EB) certification (earned June 2010) and New Construction (NC) certification (earned October 2007). In addition, Diversey’s global headquarters facility, built in 1997, was the fourth building in the world certified under LEED-EB in 2004 and was also recently recertified.
Diversey’s Sturtevant global headquarters campus has achieved significant improvements in its environmental profile through a series of initiatives that have generated substantial energy, water and carbon emission savings. Since 2006, Diversey’s headquarters campus has used:
• 28 percent less natural gas;
• 15 percent less electricity; and
• 16 percent less carbon emissions, the equivalent of taking more than 500 cars off of the road.
Diversey to Install Clean Energy Fuel Cell Diversey also recently announced it is installing a 400-kilowatt fuel cell that will generate more than 40 percent of the electricity and 75 percent of the heat needed for its global headquarters facility. The fuel cell is estimated to further reduce the company’s carbon emissions by 3,365 metric tons per year, which is equivalent to taking 685 cars off the road. The fuel cell is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2011.
Fuel cells are one of the cleanest energy-generation sources available in the world and meet the strictest U.S. emission standards. Highly energy efficient and virtually pollution-free, fuel cells produce electricity, heat and water through an electrochemical process. Diversey is the first Wisconsin company and one of the first companies in the Upper Midwest to install a fuel cell.
