JANESVILLE, WI — The Janesville School District today will decide whether or not to hire part-time custodians to maintain the schools and save the district some money, according to the GazetteXtra.
Business Services Director Doug Bunton has recommended hiring two full-time custodians and a number of part-timers that together would cover six eight-hour shifts, the story stated.
Because the part-time custodians will not have health insurance, hiring them would only cost $288,000 a year, significantly less than the $348,000 it would cost for full-time employees, the story noted.
In a trial run, the district will also reduce cleanliness levels in certain parts of schools to further cut costs, the story added.
According to the release, the district would like to hire as many custodians as are necessary to maintain a high level of cleanliness at all district schools, but they simply do not have the required funding.
