EAU CLAIRE, WI — The Eau Claire School District is looking at outsourcing some of its services, an idea that could save schools money but put present workers'' jobs at risk, according to the Leader-Telegram.
The ability to outsource jobs could become part of the district''s new employee handbook, a document expected to eventually replace collectively bargained contracts, the article stated.
According to the article, current union contracts prohibit the district from hiring outside companies to provide services such as custodial, but the new handbook could reverse that.
The downside of this reversal would be that anyone currently employed by the district could be at risk of losing their job in the future to an outside agency offering to do their jobs at a lower cost, the article noted.
