While students, teachers and some other auxiliary staff are on summer vacation for the next several months, custodial and maintenance professionals like yourself are just getting into the busy season.
Aside from regular tasks, what cleaning and/or maintenance projects have you and your coworkers been putting off all year that will be more easily completed with vacant hallways and classrooms?
Are there any tasks that will have to be deferred due to budget constraints? Are there any projects that were previously deferred that, regardless of costs, must be addressed this summer?
How is summertime staffing accounted for at your facility? Does your department run on a bare-bones staffing mentality or are additional workers enlisted to make things more efficient?
Are any of your project cleaning and maintenance tasks contracted out during the summer months? What are your feelings about either having them put out to bid or having to complete them yourself?
