HERNANDO, MS — DeSoto County officials Monday voted to save the jobs of loyal employees rather than necessarily saving money, according to the DeSoto Times Tribune.
Supervisors mulled whether or not to privatize janitorial services for the county or eliminate nine jobs, the article noted.
Supervisors opted to retain the employees, many of whom have been working as janitorial staff for many years, rather than lay them off in time of a national recession when jobs are hard to find, the article stated.
According to the article, Kenny Evans, director of facilities management, applauded the supervisors'' actions, saying the vote to retain in-house staff was due to "loyalty and security."
