Deal between city and custodians passed

BRANTFORD, ON — The city council has passed the first of several agreements with employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), according to the Brantford Expositor.

Tuesday''s deal was for members of CUPE Local 181''s custodian, caretaker and cleaners'' unit, a newly organized group of Brantford employees negotiating for a first contract, the article stated.

According to the article, the agreement is retroactive to April 1 of this year and expires on March 31, 2015, and covers about 25 full-time equivalent positions.

The agreement also included language on benefits such as bereavement leaves, recognized paid holidays, vacation allotments and some enhancements to health and dental benefits, the article noted.
