Two custodians spend six hours per night using ride-on vacuums to ensure the hallways are spotless when the school''s 2,500 students return each morning, the story stated.
Planners designed the school with ease-of-maintenance in mind, selecting easy-to-clean materials, installing heavy-duty carpet in the hallways and using bathroom stalls and fixtures made of a material that can be easily sprayed with a cleaning solution, the story noted.
According to the release, Riverview High School custodians underwent extra training to ensure competence and received new tools: A ride-on vacuum and an industrial sweeper.
At lunchtime, custodians walk around with brooms and dustpans sweeping under tables as students eat in an attempt to minimize soiling, the story added.
Custodian Don Watkins said: "It''s new, so you can clean it all pretty easily. The old school, you would see this green stuff and could scrub it for days and it wouldn''t make a difference."
