HIAWATHA, KS — An arbitrary decision to take a longer route home ended up being a life altering decision for a Hiawatha High School custodian, according to the News-Press Now.

Some time before 7:30 p.m. last Saturday night, custodian Denny Gray was headed home when he saw what he thought was a brush fire on the side of the road, the article stated.

According to the article, Gray pulled over to keep an eye on the situation and discovered the brush fire was actually a car on fire.

When Gray realized there was someone trapped in the car, he flung the door open with one hand and grabbed the man with the other, pulling him up the hill to safety, the article noted.
