GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Among all-star players like Derek Jeter and Albert Pujols, Gordy VanHaitsma will stand on the field before the 2010 MLB All-Star Game as an "All-Star" in his own right, according to the Grand Rapids Press.
VanHaitsma will represent the Detroit Tigers in Anaheim, CA, July 13 as their selection for the "All-Stars Among Us" campaign, according to a release from the team, Major League Baseball and People magazine.
One of three finalists for the Tigers, VanHaitsma was selected to be honored in a pregame ceremony via an online poll; about 1.7 million votes were cast, the article stated.
The campaign recognizes those selected for contributions to their community: All 30 MLB teams will have a representative at the game, the article noted.
