GARLAND, TX — A verdict has been handed down and a custodian who held employees of a nursing home hostage has been sentenced to prison, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Earnest Smith, who held the employees at the Castle Manor Nursing Home hostage with a handgun in April 2007, after he was fired from his job as a custodian, was sentenced to 49 years in prison, the story stated.
Smith pled guilty to four aggravated kidnapping charges and one aggravated assault charge, the story noted.
Smith had previously been found incompetent to stand trial, but that ruling was recanted, the story added.
