REDWOOD CITY, CA — Custodian Luis Hinestroza''s yearly safety training saved a choking third grader''s life, according to the Redwood City Patch.

Hinestroza was notified when a Garfield Elementary school student began choking on her lunch, the article stated.

According to the article, while every employee goes through automated external defibrilator (AED) training, most never have to actually use that training.

Hinestroza knew exactly how to respond when the girl was unable to breathe and quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver.

The girl was shaken and crying, but suffered no other injuries, the article noted.

"What happened yesterday was a wonderful thing and let everyone know what we already knew — that Luis is a great man and great things happen to great people. I am so happy for everyone involved, but especially for the student who was in the arms of an angel," said Facilities Director Don Dias.
