CHICO, CA — Seghen Hailu, now the custodian at the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), once proudly played soccer for his home country in Africa, according to The Orion.

Hailu, born and raised in Eritrea, a country located in the Horn of Africa, played for the national soccer team for two years before political unrest pushed he and his family out of the country, the article stated.

According to the article, in 1993, Hailu found himself in Minnesota, where some of his family lived, and at 23 he started his own cleaning company.

When the economy took a turn for the worse, Hailu was forced to close down his business and look for employement elsewhere, the article noted.

His experience and background in professional cleaning made him a perfect fit for the WREC, and Rick Scott, the director of the WREC, regards Hailu as an outstanding worker and respects him for starting a new chapter and putting his life back together, the article added.
