SAN BERNARDINO, CA — At Riley Elementary, custodian LaSonya Brannan is known as the heart of the school, according to The Sun.
Not only does she work from dawn to early afternoon sprucing up the playground and cafeteria, she also goes out of her way to reward deserving students and help those in need, the article noted.
"She goes above and beyond and her answer to anything we ask her is always yes," said second grade teacher Kathleen McGhee.
For Brannan''s efforts to better students'' lives, she recently won the 2009-10 Golden Apple and the Superintendent''s Classified Employee of the Year award, after receiving multiple nominations from many Riley teachers and staff members, the article stated.
According to the article, she has come to love all the students, rewarding them daily with toys, pencils, erasers and strings of colorful beads stashed in containers titled "LaSonya''s Treat Jars."
"I call it ''caught doing good''," Brannan said.
"For example, I saw a little girl cleaning up other people''s trash the other day, so she was given a treat," Brannan added.
