NORTH BERGEN, NJ — A panel of judges recently decided that Thomas Beaumont, a longtime North Bergen resident, is one of the hardest working people in America, according to The Jersey Journal.
Beaumont, 64, is a custodian at Robert Fulton School, where he mops, scrubs, buffs and waxes desks, floors and other surfaces at the Hudson Avenue building that has more than 40 classrooms, the article stated.
"I want him to be acknowledged," his wife Cynthia said. "Nobody looks up to a custodian, but if it weren''t for him, the school would be a mess."
According to the article, that''s why she created a video of all the hard work her husband, whose usual shift is 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., does and entered it into Mitchum''s "Hardest Working Person in America" contest.
The Beaumonts received word last month that Thomas beat out 165 other contestants and was named one of 10 finalists: If he gets the most votes, he has the chance to win a $100,000 cash prize, the article added.
