BENTON, AR — Custodians of the Bauxite School District no longer have to worry if their jobs will be outsourced after the school board unanimously voted to sign the contracts of all current custodial and maintenance employees late Tuesday, according to the Benton Courier.
Nearly two months ago, former Bauxite Superintendent Mickey Billingsley violated the Freedom of Information Act at least twice by discussing hiring an outside janitorial service that would save the district money — and not renew contracts for 13 janitors and maintenance employees, the article stated.
According to the article, Billingsley gave a presentation in executive session, and later sent an e-mail to board members, claiming that outsourcing the 13 employees'' job duties could save the district around $200,000 a year.
On May 8, the school board unanimously voted to suspend Billingsley until the district can buy out the remainder of his contract, the article noted.
