CHATTANOOGA, TN – A "Cadillac of green roofs," the largest green roof in the city, is found atop the Creative Discovery Museum, according to an article from the Chatanooga Times Free Press.
According to the article, small trees, plants and pansies cover the 3,000-square-foot rooftop and the $100,000 project was funded by greenspaces and Stein Construction.
"[The green roof] has a long-lasting effect," said Jeff Cannon, director of greenspaces. "It reduces the energy demand on the building. It restores habitat."
Visitors to the museum can view the plush roof from an observation tower and through the glass windows on the second floor of the museum, the story stated.
The new addition is expected to help reduce cooling expenses in the summer and limit stormwater runoff by up to 90 percent, officials said.
