PEORIA, IL — An apartment maintenance man was sentenced to 27 years in prison for aggravated arson related to fires he started back on April 18, according to the Journal Star.

As the trial for James Armentrout was set to begin yesterday, he instead plead guilty to three of the six arson charges he faced, as three of them were dismissed per his plea deal, the story stated.

Armentrout, a now former employee of S&S Property Management, must serve at least half of his 27-year sentence under Illinois state law, the story noted.

The fires in question, during which nobody was injured, were set in the maintenance rooms of Hillcrest Apartments, Woodhue Apartments, Baskin Ridge Apartments and a building located at 3110 N. Molleck Drive, the story added.

According to the story, Armentrout had been going through some tough personal times and had recently begun drinking before becoming an arsonist.
