MOUNT HOLLY, PA — The county Freeholder Board has authorized the privatization of building janitorial services, according to the Burlington County Times.
The decision, which came as no surprise, comes about a month before the planned layoff of 37 union building and grounds department employees, the article noted.
The $1.8 million contract with the private, nonprofit Occupational Training Center of Burlington County (OTC), which will save the county roughly $500,000, will run from May 16, 2011 through May 31, 2013, the article stated.
According to the article, the OTC employs people with disabilities in a variety of jobs, and the company currently has custodial and janitorial contracts with both corporate and government clients.
