CORNING, NY — Corning Inc. is best known for refining, adapting and improving products that are already on the market in order to produce them more efficiently, according to the Star Gazette.

With its newest project, Corning hopes to do exactly that with glass that can kill bacteria and viruses that come in to contact with its surface, the article stated.

According to the article, a version made by AGC Glass Europe, claims the glass can kill 99 percent of bacteria that comes in contact with it for at least five seconds.

The glass produced by AGC is treated with silver to achieve its antibacterial status, and is aimed at healthcare settings, the article noted.
