HARTFORD, CT — The decision to consolidate cleaning services by CT-1 Media and the Hartford Currant has prompted protests by the janitor''s union, according to the Hartford Courant.

CT-1 Media awarded the contract for cleaning its main building to the company that has maintained the press room and other production areas for the past nine years, the article stated.

According to the article, under the new contract, Capitol Cleaning Contractors Inc., which employs eight workers represented by Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), will no longer clean the main building.

In a written statement, CT-1 said that the decision "is based strictly on the competitive bidding process and will allow CT-1 Media to remain competitive as a business," the article noted.
