According to Barbara Whitstone, senior vice president at CleanPower, certification is vitally important in the industry as it defines an environmentally responsible cleaning service. Eco-friendly cleaning processes have increasingly become an expectation in the marketplace and GB certification provides a third-party assessment of a contractor’s knowledge and ability to perform.
The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association (ISSA) established the CIMS-GB assessment program to establish universally accepted principles as the hallmarks of well-managed, successful cleaning operations with a proven commitment to sustainability. The association continues to see more end-users require CIMS certification to be eligible to be awarded a cleaning-service contract.
Recognition by ISSA backs up CleanPower''s commitment to the main tenets of environmentally sensitive cleaning processes and sustainability; maintaining healthy work and school environments, conservation of resources and waste reduction. Whitstone reports that the company continues to see an increase in customers looking for green cleaning solutions as they become more educated. CleanPower was also one of the first companies to use products and processes certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute. The Institute''s certification program is an industry-independent, third-party testing program for low-emitting products and materials.
Legislation was recently proposed in the Wisconsin State Assembly to establish new environmental standards used to clean school, state and UW campus buildings. Authored by Representative Cory Mason, D-Racine, the proposed bill remains in the Natural Resources Committee.
