BRUNSWICK, ME — Among institutions of higher education in Maine, Bowdoin College continues to lead the way for environmental awareness in terms of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), according to The Bowdoin Orient.
On Wednesday, the Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded the College a special recognition for its numerous LEED-certified buildings, the article noted.
The honor came at the tail end of "In The Limelight," an event that highlighted achievements in sustainability at college and university campuses across Maine, the article stated.
"It is very important that we connect with students at colleges and universities in Maine," said Marilyn Leivian, who sits on the USGBC Board of Directors.
"If we teach young people the importance of green initiatives, the knowledge is contagious. They have the critical mass and the passion to do something substantial," Leivian added.
