DURHAM, NC — County commissioners were unable to decide on whether or not to award a new janitorial contract, according to The Herald-Sun.

Two commissioners voted in favor of A Plus Clean, which had been recommended by the staff, while the remaining two voted against the contractor, uncertain whether the best price had been obtained, the article stated.

According to the article, commissioner Ellen Reckhow faulted administrators for having thrown out a prior proposal from another Durham firm called Service One that said it could clean county buildings for significantly less than A Plus Clean.

The bid from Service One was rejected because administrators didn''t believe the company could perform the cleanup for so little money, the article noted.
