PENSACOLA, FL — A cleaning woman tending to a vacant unit at the Stoddert Place Apartments was assaulted and had at least two of her fingers cut off during the attack, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
Brenda Jo Brown, who was attacked and robbed by three unidentified men, was rushed to a local hospital that the Escambia County Sheriff''s Office has declined to identify out of fear of retaliation, the story stated.
Escambia County Sherriff''s Lieutenant Frank Forte said: "She put up a fight, and that''s when her fingers were severed. We put the digits on ice right away. Hopefully, they will be able to reattach them."
It remains unclear how much money was stolen during the attack, but the entire situation has local residents on edge, the story noted.
Audrey Bona, a resident of the Stoddert Place Apartments who moved in roughly one month ago, said: "You would expect something like this at night. Not in broad daylight."
Brown was discovered around 3 p.m. by Leo Coleman, a resident of the Stoddert Place Apartments who assisted the victim by wrapping her hand in a towel and calling 911, the story added.
