GAITHERSBURG, MD — Today is World FM Day, an annual event by the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) that is "celebrating success" in the facilities management (FM) industry, according to a press release.

The FM industry has much to celebrate; vital to safety, health and other cleaning and maintenance initiatives, FM professionals play an integral role in every organization''s success, the release stated.

According to the release, whether they are behind the scenes, maintaining equipment or engaging building occupants, FM has a major impact on the organization.

Increased awareness of sustainability and environmental stewardship has raised the stakes for the facilities management profession in helping organizations address these challenges. Green building design, climate action planning, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, ENERGY STAR certification, carbon footprint inventory, indoor air quality (IAQ) and renewable energy are all real topics of conversation within organizations, the release noted.
