Never mind the toilet or sink, an investigation of U.S. hotel cleanliness found hair dryers are major culprits for dirt and germs.
The investigation, conducted by ABC News, found hair dryers tended be germ-carriers because cleaners don’t think to wash them. So, while obvious places like toilets are scrubbed daily, hair dryers may go years without being cleaned and disinfected. Several of the hotels in the study charged US$500 per night.
Five-star hotels in Beijing, China, also were the focus of an investigation, that uncovered lax hygiene standards. Housekeeping crews at the luxury hotels neglected to clean toilets or wipe down rooms and even reused dirty linens for new guests, The Beijinger reports.
