Paper towels in public restrooms dry hands better than air dryers, according to 70 percent of the 2,048 U.S. adults surveyed in a recent Harris Insights and Analytics online poll commissioned by Cintas Corp.

Among those surveyed, 69 percent believe paper towels dry hands faster, 52 percent use paper towels to open the restroom door, 24 percent believe air dryers blow bacteria from hands into the air, and 22 percent believe air dryers are too loud. The survey also found that age and gender are a factor in paper towel preference, with 73 percent of women preferring paper towels compared to 66 percent of men. Among survey respondents age 35-44, 76 percent preferred paper towels compared to 60 percent of those age 18-34.
