LYNNWOOD, WA — A former custodian at Alderwood Middle School is accused of collecting more than $10,000 in false overtime pay in a five-year period, according to The Herald.
The district plans to seek repayment from the fired custodian as well as a lead custodian at the same school, who allegedly got in on the scam last summer, the article stated.
"It is disappointing that any employee steals public funds. We have taken action to address the theft and put in system safeguards to prevent this from happening going forward. We will be seeking repayment to the district from the former employees," said Superintendent Nick Brossoit.
According to the article, the district was made aware of the situation in October, and the custodians were fired in November, after an investigation by the state auditor.
The State Auditor’s Office recommended the district seek recovery of the money, and the case is also expected to be referred to the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the article noted.
