LATHAM, NY — In the May issue, we offer our readers a few facts about the creation and cleaning of biofilms.

Though biofilm is an organic or biological matter that can be hard to remove from facility surfaces, a non-chemical cleaning approach is still the best way to prevent or remove the biofilm.

According to the author, Ruben Rives, biofilms have survived after being submerged in pure disinfectant for 20 minutes or more.

A study cited in the article states, "The best result was achieved by mechanical cleaning."
