NAPLES, FL — With over 310,000 employees worldwide working for the Hilton Family of Brands, how is it that a housekeeper in Naples, Florida has earned the coveted distinction of their CEO LIGHT & WARMTH AWARD — the company’s highest individual recognition?

“With as much heart as hard work, plus big doses of integrity and innovation” says Jennifer Wallace, general manager of the Doubletree Suites by Hilton Naples, proud boss to Desiree Dayhoff, the 2014 award recipient.

Throughout her life, Desiree has persevered and worked hard for everything she has earned, including her right to become an American citizen.

As the saying goes, “good things come to good people.”  So it was through refugee service providers the Cuban-born Desiree came to the U.S. in 2006, and with the assistance of Catholic Charities she was hired at the Doubletree as a housekeeping supervisor, and ultimately earned her citizenship.

The following are just a few of the activities and empowering programs Desiree is personally involved in:

  • Provides general employment orientation for job seekers
  • Teaches English at her workplace to newly resettled refugees
  • Provides financial orientation to understand banking tools and more to one day achieve home ownership
  • Assists with Citizenship test preparation
  • Developed the Doubletree’s H.E.L.P. (Hospitality Excellence Learning Project) training program for refugees

Desiree is also heavily involved in company community outreach programs such as Autism awareness, and Earth Day’s Cleaning the Beach, among others.

Desiree strives daily to enrich her work team members’ lives with genuine care and compassion.
