The ball dropped, the corks popped and the holiday gatherings stopped.
Now, who’s ready to get back to work?
In this industry, that is a rhetorical question — many in-house facility managers and building service contractors never quit working.
Most cleaning operations continued sweeping, polishing and disinfecting facilities right through school breaks and holiday celebrations.
Who decided to schedule the holidays right in the middle of cold and flu season anyway?
Though it may not be a question of getting back to work, January is still the time when many managers and employees get back to their regular routines.
Students return, offices reopen and business travelers check into bustling hotels once again.
While the regular routine applies to everyone here at Cleaning & Maintenance Management, the New Year has actually provided our team with another reason to celebrate.
This month kicks off Cleaning & Maintenance Management’s 50th anniversary.
That’s right … 2014 marks five decades that our magazine has addressed, informed and assisted managers in the cleaning industry.
I’m sure I speak for both editorial and advertising when I say this: We are honored to be a part of the Cleaning & Maintenance Management team during this momentous milestone.
In an economy where magazines come and go, editing the cleaning industry’s leading publication — one built on five decades of strong reportage — is definitely a pleasure.
Continuing the editorial tradition of Cleaning & Maintenance Management is my most important responsibility, and I am lucky our magazine has such a solid editorial foundation.
Our team works every day to continue that tradition in the pages of this magazine, in CM e-News Daily and on the industry’s leading website, CMMOnline.com.
To start the anniversary celebration, please turn to page six for an article on the history of Cleaning & Maintenance Management, including some throwback covers, and stay tuned for more special surprises and celebrations involving our important anniversary.
The Beat Goes On
That said, this is no sedentary celebration.
We are kicking off our 50th year in business like we started way back in 1964 — by providing you with the most editorial coverage in the cleaning industry.
As the cold weather continues, this issue includes two articles to address operations in frigid temperatures.
On page 42, we offer common tips for inspection, preparation and response to winter storms.
On page 46, this month's Facility Focus features suggestions for staying warm while saving energy.

Finally, as part of our 50th anniversary coverage, we will interview people who played an important role in Cleaning & Maintenance Management’s history as well as pioneers in the JanSan market.
