Diversey Care presents Award for Best Initiative in Social Responsibility to IHG at the Worldwide Hospitality Awards
STURTEVANT, WI — Sealed Air’s Diversey Care Division presented an award for the “Best Corporate Initiative in Social Responsibility” to Intercontinental Hotels Group for their programme “Shelter in a storm”, at the 14th annual Worldwide Hospitality Awards organized by MKG Group.
The programme helps IHG hotels support guests, colleagues and local communities in times of disaster with financial support, vital supplies and accommodation. A core part of the programme is the IHG® Shelter Fund made up of hotel and corporate employee fundraising. It means they have the resources to help those impacted right away. The programme also provides the hotels with guidance on when and how best to respond when disasters occur.
Helping with food and beverage, providing meeting rooms and gathering space for people and responding organisations, and setting appropriate room rates are some of the actions the programme fosters. Hotels can download the guidance which sits as part of the Crisis Management Toolkit from the IHG Shelter in a Storm Programme website.
The Worldwide Hospitality Awards celebrate innovation in nine categories for hotels and three categories for hospitality schools. The “Best Initiative in Sustainable Development” honors a hotel brand or group that demonstrates sustainability best practices within its operations and/or social responsibility towards the local population, staff and tourist sites. Sealed Air’s Diversey Care division is a sponsor of that category.
“Social Responsibility is in our DNA as a company, and we are committed to supporting the communities everywhere we do business” said Dr Ilham Kadri, President of Sealed Air Diversey Care.
The Worldwide Hospitality Awards program promotes initiatives from around the world and is representative of the international hospitality industry. The awards committee receives nearly 150 applications from leading hotel brands and groups each year.
Other finalists include NH Hotels for their programme “Up! For Opportunities – Sprint Programme” and Best Western, for their programme “Implementation of environmental label”
Best Western approach of sustainable development presented for these awards combines an environmental management system, providing a frame for any establishment’s actions, and the innovative environmental labeling system for a night stay, communicating transparently the hotels’ impacts and results.
NH Hotels’ Sprint Programme is an innovative initiative in the Tourism Sector that promotes direct employment of young people at risk of exclusion in their hotels from the Central Europe Business Unit.
