HFI Supports ‘Green Cleaning, Sanitizing and Disinfecting Toolkit’ for Early Care and Education
BOISE, ID — The Healthy Facilities Institute® (HFI) Educational Center and Website is actively supporting the dissemination of “Green Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Disinfecting: A Toolkit for Early Care and Education” - University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing: San Francisco, California, 2013 - produced by the UCSF Institute for Health & Aging, UC Berkeley Center for Environmental Research and Children's Health, Informed Green Solutions, and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.
The Toolkit focuses on changing the way professionals clean, sanitize, and disinfect to achieve healthier Early Care and Education (ECE) environments.
“We applaud this effort to make these critical environments cleaner and healthier, prevent sensitive children from being ‘canaries in the mine’ of early-care environments, and to empower program providers and custodial staff with proactive motivation and preventative knowledge,” said Allen Rathey, president of HFI, who also serves on the Informed Green Solutions Advisory Board.
The Toolkit, available on the Informed Green Solutions website at - http://www.informedgreensolutions.org/?q=publications/green-cleaning-toolkit - includes comprehensive information about preventing infectious disease by adopting better and more benign forms of cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting, while avoiding hazardous products and processes.
The Healthy Facilities Institute® (HFI) Educational Center and Website The Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI) strives to provide authoritative information for creating and maintaining clean, healthy indoor environments. Since buildings are ecosystems, HFI works to address the many interrelated aspects of built environments — such as air, water, energy, materials and resources, green cleaning, indoor environmental quality, waste management, people and more — as an integrated or holistic system. Inasmuch as “Clean” is a metaphor for healthy indoor spaces, HFI also emphasizes prevention and removal of pollutants or contaminants to help ensure optimum conditions for living, learning and working.
