PRICHARD, AL — Custodian William Spencer's truck at Faulkner Career Technical Center has been a workday constant for his fellow employees for nearly 39 years, according to The Birmingham News.

In that time, Spencer has taken no vacation time and used only 10 days of sick time; all in all he has accrued over 600 sick days and a year of vacation, the article stated.

According to the article, in August Spencer will retire, but for the time being he’s busy doing what he has done for the past 30-plus summers: Waxing the floors, mowing the lawns and getting everything shipshape for the coming school year.

"He’s almost 79. He could have been retired years ago, but he just loves the work. He stays pretty busy; he's constantly doing something," said colleague Larry Snowden.

When he retires in August, he plans to spend time fishing, and he'll finally take that long-deferred vacation and enjoy time with his family, the article noted.
