In the lead story of our recent Infection Control e-Newsletter, Cleaning & Maintenance Management Editorial Director Rich DiPaolo pointed out that hot spot cleaning and high touch point cleaning are common phrases in the cleaning industry today.
Both terms serve to highlight the areas in a facility that occupants "touch" the most, including door knobs, faucets, levers, etc., according to DiPaolo.
To properly clean and disinfect these areas, DiPaolo recommended that facility managers and building service contractors remember the following tips:
Infection control tip #1: Color code equipment, cleaning tools and information to help workers identify the areas to use specific products and equipment.
Infection control tip #2: Use a system to keep dirt, bacteria and germs out of a facility. Assure sick workers it is ideal to stay home and install a high-performance matting system.
Infection control tip #3: Realize that floors can be a key contributor to cross contamination and clean them accordingly.
Infection control tip #4: Use signage to show proper hand-washing techniques to workers and building occupants.
Infection control tip #5: Properly train workers using the latest cleaning techniques and advanced equipment to help lower a facility's infection risk.
